Without doubt we are now living in an crazy era, I am in Covid-19 isolation alongside pretty much the rest of the world. Music hasn’t been my go-to source of relief in these complicated times but I know that music SHOULD have been my destination for solace. It is only now after getting used to this temporary ‘new’ normal, that I am now feeling the urge to retreat to listening to music as a form of the ‘original’ normal. That is where this album comes in to play.

Caribou ‘Suddenly’ is Canadian producer Dan Snaith’s 10th studio album. It offers an incredible form of escapism. Snaith is a producer at the very height of his craft. ‘Suddenly’ is a delicately created synth dance album of interstellar sounds. Utilising his subtle and mesmerising vocals, each track is intelligently elevated to a new height.

Track ‘Home’ plays as an uplifting classic 60’s soul track sample thrown over a break-beat. ‘Never Come Back’, ‘Ravi’, ‘New Jade’ and ‘Lime’ personifies Snaith’s sophisticated house and dance qualities. He is also drawn to elegant piano and hip-hop on ‘Sunny’s Time’, and soul on ‘Like I Loved You’.

Definitely an early contender for my album of the year. Listen anytime.
