Kiwanuka

‘Kiwanuka’ is the third album by Michael Kiwanuka, I haven’t heard an LP like this since I rummaged through my parent’s vinyl collection, when I discovered the sounds of Marvin Gaye, Jimi Henrix & Santana. In the decades to come, your kids will think the same when they listen to this.

‘Kiwanuka’ is a long playing album in all senses and it oozes class throughout. It’s consistent soulful laidback rhythms and riffs on ‘Hero’, and gospel choir on ‘Light’ and ‘Solid Ground’.

Kiwanuka’s smooth and controlled voice glides across the album. ‘Hard To Say Goodbye’, ‘Final Days’ and ‘Hero’ maintain funk and rock cinematic vibes, picture this…a classic Western movie soundtrack with a space cowboy as the main character directed by Tarantino. Maybe that has something to do with the production of the album by the super prolific Danger Mouse, which adds an interstellar psychedelic feel.

It will draw comparisons to the classic soul & rock albums of the 1970’s, and deservedly so.
