Nothing But Thieves grabbed my attention with the radio play of the 1st single ‘Amsterdam’. A raw heavy rock track, demonstrating a refreshing energy, which you don’t often hear on regular radio. Then they follow it up with 2nd single ‘Sorry’, offering a more rock-ballad sound. I immediately sought out their previous self titled eponymous 2015 debut album. Giving the listener glimpses into the bands influences, with particular comparisons with the vocals of Jeff Buckley and elements of Radiohead, but all the while Nothing But Thieves are their own band with their own sound. ‘Broken Machine’ is a more rounded and produced animal. The title track ‘Broken Machine’ opens with a break-beat dance sound, before gaining momentum. On ‘Live Like Animals’, the lead singer partial raps through a social commentary of the present way of the world. ‘I Was Just A Kid’ opens in the same raw vain power as 1st single as ‘Amsterdam’. They achieve mixing all the tracks between rock ballad, ROCK, and anthemic crowd pleasers. Possibly signalling a re-emergence of the british rock band?!?
