Tobe Nwigwe is a musical force to be reckoned with, the Nigerian American artist began his career as a poet, and you can hear it through his creative lo-fi flow sound, rhythm, intricate lyrics and beats.
The US comic Ali Siddiq advised the Houston rapper to transpose his poetry skills to rap…perfect advice from Siddiq. Nwigwe has conceived a rare and uncommon album of soulful, raw, skilfull tracks with elements of electro synth and prayer.
The tracks are accompanied online by captivating videos of creative choreography and sometimes humour led. Featuring wife Fat and producer Nell, both of their vocals accompany Tobe throughout ‘THE ORIGINALS.’.
His lyrics self proclaim on ‘HEAT ROCK’…’I spit classics complex progressions, my whole flow is bebop’ and on ‘CHILL.’ Tobe states ‘They say I’m spittin bazookas cause the flow is medusa’.
Other releases include follow up album ‘MORE ORIGINALS’ and 2019 deep beat soulful single ‘Against the Grain’ (feat. Madeline Edwards).
Tobe Nwigwe is individual, difficult to define an exact reference point, maybe Outkast?
Surely 2019 is the year Tobe goes global.
