Tom Misch- Geography

Sometimes it helps to just hear a work of music by an artist that you know nothing about, it is a very similar sensation to seeing a film for which you have no prior knowledge but come out of the viewing feeling surprised and entertained. This is exactly how I reacted to hearing Tom Misch’s album ‘Geography’, it delivers a blend of soul, funk & jazz. It has a similar vibe to the Acid Jazz scene of the early 90’s and the debut album by Jamiroquai ‘Emergency On Planet Earth’.

After the intro track ‘Before Paris’, the 2nd track on the album which is the standout single ‘Lost In Paris’ reals you in and keeps you hooked ready for the smooth ride.

‘Disco Yes’, ‘Tick Tock’ and ‘Cos I love You’ provide the disco vibes, with nods to the influences of great funky guitar riffs of Nile Rodgers.

The lyrics on ‘It Runs Through Me’ sing ‘The music gives me sun when winter starts’, this sums up the album, it is a ray of sunshine.
