Woah, how indeed did that happen?!? Am I ‘middle-aged’ or close to ‘middle-aged’, maybe writing this blog makes me! I wanted to create a new music review website for the discernible traditionally tagged parent, who starts to sound like their own parent when it comes to hearing new music.
As a child of the late 70’s, I was influenced heavily by my parent’s taste in music. They grew up in the 60’s, the first full decade of modern pop music.
We now have instant access to the latest music releases via music streaming services, I can listen to anything I want, anytime I want, yet I find myself sounding more and more like my dad…’music isn’t as good as it used to be’, ‘i’ve heard it all before’, ‘it sounds like the Beatles’, ‘I can’t believe they are covering this already’. This isn’t supposed to sound disrespectful, because I know my dad had an open mind, I always tried to surprise him and wow him with music that I thought he would like.
I am striving to hear good new music, I don’t want to get stuck in a life of nostalgia, I want to hear new music that shakes me, knocks me, rocks me, and surprises me.
Having briefly worked within the music industry, I can’t help but hope that some of the world within which I immersed myself left some impression on me. Gave me some sense of taste, left me with an open mind as well.
So now that I’m a parent myself, I need to make sure that I don’t get stuck harking back to the halcyon days of grunge, rave, acid house and britpop. This website pushes me to hear and recommend the latest music.
stay tuned for my first review…
